Nicolas Ghesquière leaves Balenciaga
The Balenciaga fashion house and Nicolas Ghesquière have announced their joint decision to end their working relationship as of 30 November 2012. Nicolas Ghesquière has been the Creative Director of Balenciaga since 1997. François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and Chief Executive of PPR, said: “Cristóbal Balenciaga was a master, a genius whose avant-garde vision dictated fashion’s greatest trends and inspired generations of designers. With an incomparable creative talent, Nicolas has brought to Balenciaga an artistic contribution essential to the unique influence of the house.” (x)
I guess Florabotanica isn’t selling as well as we’ve been told. Nicolas Ghesquière has been with Balenciaga for 15 years. I wonder how much of his sudden departure is due to his crappy hiring choices. Kristen Stewart is his “muse,” remember. Basically his bad choice has tarnished the brand and since they can’t fire Kristen he had to go. Balenciaga is stuck with her for the duration of her contract with them. Sucks to be them. It’s a luxury brand and most of her fans appear to be tweens and grandmas living on Social Security.
